The BMW 335iS Convertible - only for North America
We’ve just had the reveal of the 2010 updates for the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible. And now comes news of a new high-end 3-Series – the BMW 335iS – which will bridge the gap between the M3 and the 335i. But BMW are only planning on selling the car in North America – at least for now.
Rally driver Ken Block spent his summer on a three-continent tour of car trickery, and his highlight video can be viewed here. The Chevrolet Volt has been in the spotlight this week because of a NHTSA investigation into battery-pack fires, but the car still topped an owner-satisfaction survey. Seat has unveiled its most powerful production car ever, the new Leon Cupra R, with an S3- and Scirocco R-matching 261bhp.
Performance figures for the front-wheel drive hot hatch look good: 62mph is dispatched in 6.1 seconds, the top speed is 155mph, and yet the Cupra R returns 34.9mpg. Thank the high-tech 2.0 turbo engine from the Volkswagen group, which in this incarnation makes 261hp. Helping get all that power through the front wheels is XDS, the same system you'll find on the Golf GTI that effectively mimics a limited slip differential through the use of electronic wizardry.
